In lieu of a Ramble this month, Charlie and I plus a Mystery Guest
will be celebrating St. Paddy in Brighton this Sunday. Meeting in Wetherspoons - The Post and Telegraph in North Street - at about 11.15ish. Then to The Fiddlers Elbow for traditional music and the wearing of silly hats.
All are welcome.

Well, this was definitely a NERDS' limited edition outing. Colin Crowe had flu; Gorilla Brown could not make it; Sandyballs had come down with some lurghey; and Dio turned up but decided not to come because of a bad stomach. So this originally left Lafayette (sole NERD) and his mate, Mike from Belfast (with whom it has to be said Laf drinks a fair amount of Irish whiskey.)
However halfway to Brighton on the bus Laf got a phone call from Paco wanting to know why he wasn't in Wetherspoons. So off we went to Wetherspoons. Despite it being a Sunday the place was packed and Paco had only found one of those teeny, one person "stand up at" tables to begin his drinking.
So we had a quick one here and then bolted for The Fiddler's Elbow which is a proper Irish pub. When we got there we were presented with a scene of utter chaos. Nobody was allowed in cos they were cleaning up after last night when St Pats had started early ( and had gone on until 03 30hrs!) The place was full of nubile cleaning girls/barmaids who were brushing and mopping but wouldn't start serving for another half hour. So Laf and co crept inside clandestinely to bag some seats and had a whip for drinks.
Hurray! The bar was opened and Laf rushed out to get a round. It came to £25+! for three people! but there again there were two double Bushmills and a pint of Guinness so what can you expect on St Patrick's Day. There did not appear to be any music at this juncture and the pub filled up with lots of mothers and teeny weeny children (all girls?) and all dressed up in various shades of green.
So we watched the football on telly - Fulham beating Spurs by 3 - 0, and Paco wondered if it was this that had caused Sandyballs to be "ill" Then we had another couple of expensive drinks and went outside - where they had set up a stage for a band to play but nowhere to sit. Bad management.
We caught the bus back in North Street and while on the upper deck Laf and Paco listened in to the scintillating (foreign) conversation of some young ladies sitting behind us and tried to determine what the fuck language they were speaking. We reckoned it was Dutch (perhaps) but could have been Scandiwege or anything. So just before alighting Laf asked them where they were from, how long they were staying , did they have return tickets etc etc, and they told him they were Swiss so no problem. I mean we're all in the EU now aren't we?
Feeling hungry we got off at NHN and walked all the way to La Luna Rossa which is just on Mike's doorstep and had a big fuck off meal to round off the proceedings.
It had been an interesting day visiting the old NERDS' St Patrick haunts. There had been much booze but sadly little music. Let's hope everyone gets better for next year.
Love to All.
Lafayette.
